The designations earned of Certified Public
Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner and
Certified Valuation Analyst, and Certified
Forensic Financial Analyst help give assurance
of credibility, acceptance, training and
competency in these areas.
According to the National Association of
Certified Valuation Analysts "The Certified
Forensic Financial Analyst (CFFA) credential
is designed to provide assurance to the
legal community—the primary users
of litigation support services— that
the designee possesses a level of experience
and knowledge deemed acceptable by the Association
(NACVA) to provide competent and professional
forensic financial support services. Earning
the credential requires consideration of
all of the person’s qualifications
and commitment to the discipline; this includes
prior education and experience, prerequisite
and required training as provided (or recommended)
by NACVA, testing—both proctored and
through case study (or samples of work product),
and post-requisite requirements for recertification.
The CFFA program encompasses all the components
for supporting and upholding a credential
with innate value for the holder and the
user community—to be respected, not
because it is the first of its kind, but
because it is substantial in all regards."
Litigation support includes
providing assistance to the legal community
in understanding complex financial or accounting
documents, in assisting in the discovery
process through identification of relevant
documents to request for production and
in formulating questions for financial,
business and accounting personnel in the
deposition or trial phase, and in evaluating
the reports or testimony of opposing expert
witnesses.
